At a special meeting on the river bank at Burrowbridge today, Conservative Prospective MP for Taunton Deane, Rebecca Pow pressed the new Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Liz Truss, on her commitment to the 20 year action plan to protect Somerset from future flooding.
"I am so pleased that Liz Truss made it a priority to visit this part of Somerset following the devastating flooding, in order to check the measures being put in place to ensure people and wildlife don’t suffer so badly again.
"I am delighted that she has given her complete commitment to continuing to support the 20 year action plan set up to address the problems and involving a wide range of local representatives.
"I am also assured that the Secretary of State will be pushing for the right schemes to be put forward from this area for future Government funding."
"I am completely committed to the 20 year plan" explained Liz Truss.
"I am here because this is such a high priority area and I want to be sure that we are taking action and I am happy to see that everything is completely on track."
