MP for Taunton Deane, Rebecca Pow visited Calway House on Friday for their very sunny Open Day. The care home that is home to 83 residents opened its doors to members of the public on Friday 19th June to raise awareness of the home for National Care Home Open Day. Among the activities of the day were a live singer for the guests, along with a selection of homemade drinks and cake.
The home is designed in groups of 15 rooms, and each group has its own lounge and dining facilities to offer a homely, intimate atmosphere in a convenient location. Along with providing residential and nursing care, there is also a dedicated area within Calway House that provides safety and security for those residents with dementia.
Rebecca said, ‘I was delighted to attend the sunny open day at Calway House, it was a wonderful atmosphere in this home which provides care for a wide range of needs including specialist nursing care and provision for dementia sufferers. With our ageing population in Somerset increasing, well run centres like this are extremely important.’
Calway House is part of Somerset Care and has previously been awarded Beacon status in the Gold Standard Framework for their support given to people nearing end of life. The award is presented to care homes that they can identify the people who need this special care at this time of their life, assessing what they need and planning their care and support in conjunction with them, their families and carers.
