Rebecca Pow, Conservative Prospective MP for Taunton Deane, welcomed Claire Perry, Transport Minister, to Taunton.
Claire praised the team work between business, the council and the rail organisations that is really making this project work.
Rebecca explained "Claire came down to see the station site following the Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin’s visit in June. I was delighted that he accepted my invitation and saw the potential for the project for himself and realised what value this rail transformation could make to the town. This was the key to the Local Enterprise Parnership bid of £4.6million from the Growth Deal being granted. It was such a coup!
"Work will begin on the new road junction on the south side of the station, the improved bus route and the much needed multi storey car park during the next year. Once this is underway people will really be able to appreciate the difference this will make to Taunton and the inward investment of potentially £22 million to the adjacent Firepool site can begin to flow in."
