Months after the flood waters on the Somerset Levels have subsided some desperate home owners are still not back in their homes and the finger of blame is being pointed at a number of insurance companies.
Prospective Conservative MP for Taunton Deane, Rebecca Pow has been out to meet Steve Wilton who lives at Burrowbridge and whose whole life has been turned upside down because his insurance company will not honour their agreement despite months of wrangling.
‘I was utterly dismayed to see how Steve Wilton and his wife are struggling to live in their farmhouse at Burrowbridge. The smell of raw sewage is still obvious, the whole of the downstairs looks like a building site, wires are dangerous and the family are struggling to cope. They have endured months of wrangling with their insurance company and this simply is unacceptable. The only ray of sunshine I can offer is to say that Government have asked for details of any cases like this so that they can approach the offending insurance companies nationally to move the situation forward and this is exactly what I am doing for Steve and his family. I hope that we can get them back to normal as soon as possible.’ Saysa Rebecca Pow.
Over forty families have received help and advice to help them move back into their homes following the floods but there are still a number in the same boat as the Wilton’s whose insurance companies are not playing ball. Rebecca urges anyone in the same boat to either get in touch with her or to contact Taunton Deane Borough Council directly where a dossier is being complied for government.
