Arts, Culture & Heritage organisations in Taunton Deane granted nearly £1million funding from second tranche of Government’s Culture Recovery Fund
Through the second tranche of the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund, further support is being made available to arts, culture & heritage organisations across England, including an additional £1million in Taunton Deane, on top of the £1.5million already awarded locally in the Autumn last year.
Last year, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport made £1.57bn of support available through its Culture Recovery Fund to support heritage and the wider cultural sector during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England have worked together to ensure that this second tranche of funding from Government reaches the organisations most in need. It has been announced that in Taunton Deane, the Taunton Theatre Association, the Creative Innovation Centre, South West Heritage Trust, The Production Boutique, Hestercombe Gardens Trust, PCC of St James Halse, Ash Priors Holy Trinity Church, West Somerset Railway Heritage Trust and The Parochial Church Council of the Ecclesiastical Parish of St Mary Magdalene Taunton will share just under £1million.
This funding will help with costs for operating, reopening and recovery as well as allow construction and maintenance, helping to preserve visitor attractions and protect livelihoods for some of the most vulnerable heritage specialists and contractors in the sector.
Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden, said:
“Our record-breaking Culture Recovery Fund has already helped thousands of culture and heritage organisations across the country survive the biggest crisis they've ever faced. Now we’re staying by their side as they prepare to welcome the public back through their doors - helping our cultural gems plan for reopening and thrive in the better times ahead.”
Local MP Rebecca Pow said:
“This further support for our nation’s arts and heritage is welcome news and I am delighted that we are benefitting from an additional £1million on top of the £1.5 million already awarded locally at the end of last year. It will enable these local organisations to plan for reopening and help them recover in the months ahead.”
