Taunton Deane MP, Rebecca Pow visited 40 Commando Royal Marines this week on a fact finding mission with Minister of State for the Armed Forces, Penny Mordaunt.
She met Marines from the 650-strong unit, which is currently the 'Standing Task' Commando in 3 Commando Brigade, involved in a wide range of roles at home and abroad.
Their tasks include providing ships' force protection teams for Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels around the globe, contributing to UK domestic resilience tasks, and supplying short term training teams that build capacity in foreign Armed Forces.
Rebecca said, ’40 Commando are highly significant to our national defence and equally hugely respected locally. They’ve currently been helping out with operations across the UK and around the world and I was very pleased to get an update from Commanding Officer, Lieut Col Andy Watkins on their achievements.’
