Rebecca Pow was at the Royal Mail sorting office in Taunton early on Wednesday (10th) morning to provide a helping hand to postal workers as they deal with the annual Christmas rush. The service comes under increasing pressure at this time of year and 2014 is no different; according to the Greeting Card Association the market for Christmas cards has risen by nearly 6% and in the run up to this year’s holidays, Royal Mail expects people in the UK to send an average of 17 cards each.
Rebecca joined some of the 200 staff working for Royal Mail across Taunton Deane and who are responsible for making sure that residents across the constituency’s varied urban and rural areas receive their cards before the festive day.
Rebecca was hugely impressed by the efficiency and dedication of the staff and said: “I was so pleased to support the huge operation at Royal Mail in Taunton. The team are working around the clock to deliver our Christmas post on time. They are a highly professional outfit and doing a great job. We did take a few minutes out to post a letter to David Cameron at Number 10!”
Manager Paul Bailey said: “I am extremely proud of the work force here. We have a top team working 24/7 to get the mail out on time. We have operations not just here in Taunton, which also handles post for Wellington, but also in Bishops Lydeard and Wiveliscome all working flat out to the same goals and high standards.”
