Chief Executive of Musgrove Park Hospital, Jo Cubbon, took Prospective Conservative MP Rebecca Pow on a tour of the new Jubilee Building at Musgrove Park Hospital which is now fully up and running after a gradual start from March this year. The three sections of the building are named after local gardens, Hestercombe, Barrington and Montacute.
First impressions from both staff and patients are positive as Jo Cubbon explains: "It’s going very well; it’s hugely different than the rest of the hospital. Single rooms, each with a bathroom, more spacious, staff can speak via special intercoms, pods for groups of patients, quiet areas and generally it’s reflecting well on the patients as we are seeing shorter stays."
"This is a wonderful facility to have right here in Taunton. A huge amount of planning went into the concept involving both staff and patients in the design. They’ve even included an internal garden since it is appreciated that nature can aid recovery. This could serve as a model for other new hospital developments nationally" says Rebecca, "the only downside is that so much extra money had to be allocated to the project to make all facilities fit for our increasingly obese society, something as a population as a whole we must tackle."
