Today Rebecca Pow MP wrote to the Department for Communities and Local Government urging them to carefully consider the future of the Fire Control Centre in Blackbrook Business Park.
The Centre, which has never been occupied, stands empty at a staggering cost of £1.9million to the tax payer each year. This high cost is incurred in maintaining the highly specialised equipment that is housed inside the building, this contract runs until 2028.
Rebecca has previously lobbied Mark Francois, the Minister responsible, encouraging him to increase the efforts of DCLG to find a tenant for the building.
Rebecca said
‘With office space at a premium in Taunton it seem absolutely ludicrous that this building has been empty for so long, I have made my disappoint known to the fire Minster. It is an absurd waste of tax payer’s money and an unacceptable waste of a valuable business premise. I have urged the Minster to re-examine this case and increase all effeorts to find a suitable occupier for the building. I am hopeful that the Department will listen to my concerns and a tenant will be found shortly.’
