Taunton Deane MP met with residents, staff and volunteers at the Life House this week, to learn more about how the charity is supporting single mothers in Taunton and across the UK.
Life House is a property owned and run by the charity, Life, an organisation that provides supported living for young mums. As a pro-life charity, their mission statement is ‘to create a just society which has the utmost respect for all human life from fertilisation’, and their aim is to ensure that anyone facing an unexpected pregnancy has a support network around them to give vulnerable mothers and children the best start in life.
Based in Taunton, the Life House can accommodate up to 6 pregnant women between the ages of 16 – 26, working to improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable pregnant mothers by supporting them through difficult times and helping them to grow in confidence, as well educating them on subjects such as parenting and budgeting.
Commenting on her visit, Rebecca said, ‘I was encouraged to hear about the inspiring work the staff at Life are doing to ensure that these young mothers are assisted throughout their pregnancy and early days of motherhood. Any mother will understand the pressures having a child can have on any one of us, let alone someone who finds themselves vulnerable and without support. This charity has truly been a lifeline to so many mothers and children and I welcome the good work they’re doing, not only in Taunton, but across the wider UK. A great deal of credit should go to Viv Duncan, who set up the Life House in Taunton, and to the staff and volunteers who are so generous with their time.’
