Rebecca Pow MP, held a highly successful Older Persons Fair to coincide with National Older Peoples Day on Saturday 1st October at Taunton’s Brewhouse Theatre.
Themed around health and wellbeing, the ‘National Older Peoples Day Fair’ helped to raise awareness of the plethora of activities, hobbies, services, volunteering opportunities and much more besides which are available across Taunton Deane as we get older.
There were various taster sessions throughout the morning facilitated by Age UK Somerset, including Yoga and Chair based exercise, as well as Wine Tasting supplied by the organisers of the Wellington Food Festival.
Over 30 local organisations were represented at the event, including Wellington-based Young At Heart Club and The Silver Line, a free 24 hour confidential helpline for older people.
Following the event, Rebecca said, ‘I am delighted with the success of this inaugural event to celebrate National Older Peoples Day. Not only did it provide my constituents with a range of useful information and contacts, it also was valuable networking for the organisations who attended. Feedback from the event was very positive, with people commenting on the fantastic opportunities available as we get older in Taunton Deane. I’d like to thank The Brewhouse, but most importantly all the stall holders and attendees for making the event a great success.’
