Rebecca Pow, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Taunton Deane, was invited to speak on the main stage of the Conservative Party Conference on its opening day in Birmingham. She introduced one of the first sessions, Our United Kingdom, in which she welcomed on stage Stephen Crabb, Secretary of State for Wales and Theresa Villiers, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
As well as hosting a session in which key politicians delivered pivotal speeches on the different parts of the United Kingdom, Rebecca talked of her pride in her own constituency with its thriving rural economy.
"As the Prospective Conservative MP for Taunton Deane, I was honoured to introduce the session on the main stage at conference. This session was more pertinent than ever in the light of the recent referendum. I was delighted to be able to include references to my constituency, with its busy county town of Taunton and I'll be fighting to make sure that our region gets noticed. I was also pleased to mention the farming and rural areas which are so important to the areas around Wellington, Taunton and Wiveliscombe in Taunton Deane."
Rebecca also spoke of her pride in standing for the Conservative and Unionist Party, a reference to the recent success of the No campaign in Scotland.
In a later speech on the main stage Rebecca's contribution to helping to rebuild Britain was also noted by Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin.
He praised Rebecca's work "whose campaigning is sorting out the station in Taunton, allowing the town to develop. Last winter’s storms reminded us just how vital reliable transport is to the southwest."
