Last week, Rebecca Pow, Prospective Conservative MP for Taunton Deane, welcomed Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles to Taunton to showcase the exciting new development of Council properties off Creechbarrow Road.
The development comprises of 92 new flats and houses, with 60 dwellings for social rent with Taunton Deane Borough Council and 32 dwellings for affordable rent with Knightstone.
Mr Pickles said, ‘I am grateful I had the opportunity to visit Taunton Deane to meet with Rebecca Pow and see this exciting new project. It’s not just about building houses but it’s also about building a proper community. It’s about homes and people being proud to live here, but also to have a real sense of pride that they are living in a place that is vibrant and exciting.’
Community engagement has been a strong focus of the project and the development team link in with the Halcon One Team, a multi-agency initiative designed to support the wider Halcon area.
‘Taking advantage of the opportunity to be self-financing, this is the first time that Taunton Deane Borough Council have been able to build new Council houses in 20 years’, Rebecca said; ‘This will increase opportunities for people needing social housing, but also the houses themselves will be very low cost to maintain and will be a great asset to the area’.
