Taunton Deane MP, Rebecca Pow MP has presented her petition, calling for a new Surgical Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital, to the House of Commons.
Rebecca launched her petition last month, which called for the Government to provide funding to Musgrove Park Hospital, to enable them to build a new Surgical Centre. As part of ongoing improvement works across the hospital site, MPH has put in a bid to the Department of Health and NHS Transformation to build a £79.5million Surgical Centre, which would include six new endoscopy rooms, eight operating theatres and a further twenty-two critical care beds.
Rebecca has received in excess of 6,000 signatures in support of this funding bid. On presenting her petition, Rebecca stated to the House; ‘petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urges the Government to provide funding to Musgrove Park Hospital to build a new Surgical Centre; and further that their bid to the Department of Health’s Transformation Fund be given the utmost consideration.’
Rebecca said:
“I am delighted that the petition has received such overwhelming support from so many across Taunton Deane demonstrating the strength of feeling locally for this much needed project. Musgrove serves not just people from Taunton Deane but from the whole Somerset area and indeed the wider SW region and some of the facilities are housed in 1940’s buildings which are in desperate need of updating in order for the hospital to maintain its outstanding rating for patient care into the future. This campaign has really struck a chord with so many constituents and I shall continue to press the Secretary of State for Health for the funding for this much needed project for the benefit not just of patients but also for the hard working staff at the hospital.”
