Taunton Deane MP, Rebecca Pow, is delighted to announce a winner for her photography competition held to promote Somerset Day (May 11th).
Somerset Day was born in 2015. A day to mark King Alfred the Great’s defeat of the Danes in the 878 Battle of Edington. The day is a celebration of all things Somerset.
William Hole from Taunton took the prize for first place with his entry, ‘Lady’. A stunning photograph taken of the Third Way Bridge in Taunton, a structure regularly overlooked. Andre Clinchant took second place with a rural image and Dominic Rayson, third with a photograph of Vivary Park’s iconic War Memorial.
Rebecca said, ‘I decided to hold a Somerset Day photographic competition to highlight some of the glories of the county that are found here in Taunton Deane. I was bowled over by the number of high quality entries the competition attracted which illustrates not only how beautiful this part of the world is but also what talented photographers we have in the area.
As well bringing out the artistic side of the community I also hope that images like this will showcase the area ultimately helping to attract more people here to shop and to enjoy all our many attractions.’
Winner William, who lives in Taunton only took up photography a year ago. He particularly enjoys editing his images. Commenting, he said, ‘I was delighted to win this new competition. I firmly believe that if people saw some of the stunning pictures of Taunton and its surroundings they would appreciate just how beautiful the area is and that’s where photographers can help.’
Thanks must go to The Ring of Bells Pub and Restaurant for their donation of a prize.
