A three-year project to transform the West Somerset Railway Gauge Museum has been completed recently and at a special thankyou event it was opened by MP for Taunton Deane, Rebecca Pow.
The project was funded jointly by the National Heritage Lottery Fund, the Heritage trust and supported by Government. The Museum’s aims are to promote education by furthering interest in railways, equipment, building and construction from the age of steam.
Local MP Rebecca Pow MP said:
“It was an honour to open the upgraded Gauge Museum. I particularly enjoyed seeing inside one of the original GWR sleeping carriages dating back to 1897 when Queen Victoria travelled in a similar carriage through the West Country. I was also impressed by the model railway which is operated by a group of active young people who are devoting their time to maintain the system and share their knowledge with visitors. Well done to the volunteers of all ages who have contributed to the success of this refurbishment.”
