During her visit to the Royal Bath & West Show, Taunton Deane MP and the Environment Minister, Rebecca Pow, addressed the CLA business breakfast on the new farming and environmental schemes replacing the European Basic Payment scheme and later toured the showground. Meeting the Somerset Young Farmers and Kaleb Cooper from popular Jeremy Clarkson’s’ tv show Clarkson’s Farm. Ms Pow was also intrigued to find her presentation of a Taste of Somerset hamper to HM the Queen at the Show in 1985, when she worked for the NFU, showcased on the NFU stand:
Ms Pow said: “Young farmers are the future of farming in Somerset, and it was great to meet them at the Royal Bath and West Show to share their experience. I am delighted that the show was able to go ahead this year following the pandemic and to meet so many of the participants including livestock farmers exhibiting some of their finest stock. These farmers are the bedrock of the West Country. Coming face to face with Her Majesty on the NFU stand also brought back fond memories; it was such an honour to present the Queen with the Taste of Somerset hamper back in 1985.”
