There's no doubt that the past year has been a challenge in many ways as the impacts of the pandemic resonated and the atrocious war in Ukraine continued with the consequent impacts on the global economy which caused energy prices here to escalate. This of course has put pressure on many businesses and individuals as the cost of living has risen. However, at every step of the way Government has reviewed the situation and introduced a range of support packages to help which I know from my meetings locally has been welcomed by many and indeed has been a lifeline for some businesses. As this new year progresses, I shall continue to be the link between Taunton Deane and Westminster to ensure the right supports are in place.
I am proud that some of my priorities have come to fruition over the last year including securing government funding to facilitate £1 and £2 bus fares across the constituency as well as the development of the digital innovation hub at Firepool which will be open soon. I was instrumental in securing the funding for this as well as for funding to enable the Coal Orchard development in Taunton to open. And I'm so delighted to hear how many people are enjoying the now restored Wellington Monument. Do book a slot to go up it - the views are wonderful. My priorities for this year include progressing the upgrade of Musgrove Park Hospital, improving NHS dental provision as well as continuing to drive the development of Wellington rail station, a project I have championed since being the local MP. I look forward to welcoming the Rail Minister to discuss the plans in the New Year.
As ever do get in touch if there is anything I can help with. Wishing you all the best for a successful and peaceful New Year.
