Donning her sporting attire, Prospective Conservative MP for Taunton Deane, Rebecca Pow joined members of the Taunton Ladies Football Team at Taunton Town’s Wordsworth Drive ground on Saturday for a special Ladies Day to entice more women to get involved in the sport.
‘I’d encourage any women to come along and join in, football offers so much – a chance to keep fit, have fun, make friends and even represent your town! Football for women has developed enormously over recent years and this facility is really good. The club really want to get more women involved and I would definitely second that. I enjoy a wide range of sports myself as do all my family and I know what huge benefits can be derived from it.’
Team Manager, Becky Farthing, aged 30, has been playing football for years and is a great advocate of the game:
‘Football is great for keeping you looking young, we’ve got all ages in our squad from 16 t0 50! We enjoy socials, fund raising events and travelling all over the region for our matches in the SW Women’s Football League.’
The ladies train every Tuesday, 7 – 9pm with matches on Sundays. Any active individuals aged 16 and 50 are welcome.

If you don’t fancy playing, the two ladies teams would also welcome additional supporters!
Come along to see them in the quarter finals of the Somerset Cup on January 26th 2014 against Evercreech!
